Every swimmer needs goggles, water cap, towel, and swimwear that keeps them comfortable. The swimwear can be trunks, bikinis, bathing suits, or training suits. The goggles and water cap are there to protect you from the chlorine in the water, and a towel to keep you dry when outside.
If you or your child are beginners, you will also need some basic gear like flotation devices. These can be any type of personal flotation devices, floaties, rings, and noodles. You can also use kickboards.
If you want to bring everything but the essentials, make sure you have a mesh bag, in which you can store your gear and wet bathing suits. Make sure to bring earplugs, clips, fins, a mask, a snorkel, and a buoy.
Swimming is a great pastime for those that want to spend time in water and a great way to gain stamina. Learning how to swim is easy, you can do it yourself or hire an instructor, but make sure to follow the pool or bathing area rules about going into the water.
If you are not a beginner and want to train for your swimming goals, there are some basics you need. These include a lap counter, block, and journal.
For training you will need stretch cords, pull bands, non/slip mat while outside. You can use hand and finger paddles to reach a higher speed.
If you want to train your endurance, use a pull buoy, other resistance gear, or a swim parachute.
While outside the water, you will need gear and clothes that will keep you warm. If the water is colder, use a swimming shirt, and if you want to keep your hands warm, use hand warmers.
When you are out of the water, have some flip flops, covers, swim parka and anything else you might need at hand. When you change, pants, shirts, underwear, socks, and a laundry bag will be essential.
If the weather outside is colder, make sure to bring neoprene wear, hat, buff, a warm or rain jacket, thermal underwear, and rain pants.
Your wallet should have your ID, insurance, credit card, cash, and keys. Make sure to stash them properly while swimming.
In the case of an emergency, you will need your meds and first aid kit. Apart from that, you will also need to protect your body from the elements. Bring sunscreen, lip, and hand balm, your glasses, and contacts.
Your phone with a charger, smartwatch, power bank, and extra batteries are the basic technology you need. If you plan on doing videography or photography, bring an underwater camera with memory cards and extra batteries. Also, you can listen to music while underwater, so bring swimming headphones.
After you are done with swimming, your body will need fuel. Bring bars, sandwiches, and nuts with you. Also, while spending time in the water, make sure to bring water or drinks to keep yourself hydrated.
It doesn’t matter if you are enjoying the sea, a lake, or an indoor pool. The main goal of swimming is to enjoy yourself and move in the water. Any body of water will suffice for this activity, just make sure it is clean enough.
In the end, if you are not confident in your swimming knowledge, get an instructor or teach yourself. Make sure you always attend swimming while there is a lifeguard until you become confident and learn how to swim.
